Synopsis

Among the first to cast a photographer’s eye on the French provinces after the war, Jean Ribière caught, in the Auvergne and Limousin, the powerful attentiveness to everyday toil, the smiles of children of lacemakers, the morning sun at the market or in the fields. A benevolent and discreet onlooker, almost absent from the scene unrolling before his camera lens, Jean Ribière, as the great photo-journalist that he was, preferred to his own celebrity the celebration of the Other and of his humble victories.
